U-Pick Berries

U-PICK BERRIES

****IMPORTANT NOTE**** there are no strawberries this season (2011). We lost our entire strawberry orchard in the flood. At this point we do not know if/when we will replant the strawberries. Raspberry U-Pick will be open in August.

There are several acres of U-Pick berry fields at Lincoln Gardens. We have Strawberries & Raspberries for picking. Pickers must make reservations so please call the farm before coming. 731-3133

We are expanding the U-Pick fields to include Saskatoons, Honeyberry, and Cherries however it will be a few more seasons before these are ready to pick. ** Please Note ~ The U-Pick berries are the ONLY crops that visitors are able to pick themselves; we do not allow individuals to enter our vegetable fields.

2010 U-Pick Schedule:
Strawberries – July through September – NONE 2011 SEASON due to flooding
Raspberries – Mid July through Aug – CALL for Availability
Saskatoons – none this season
Honeyberry – none this season
Cherries – none this season

U-Pick Rules:

Picking berries is a great way to spend time with your family, enjoying the sounds and sights of the countryside. Picking your own berries can be fun, but it also has responsibilities. Please enjoy yourself and ensure that those who come after you can also enjoy their time on our farm.

Call ahead to reserve a picking time and date. 306-731-3133

Bring your own 4 litre “ice cream” pail for strawberry picking. We have 4 Litre baskets that can be purchased if you do not have a suitable container. Random sized pails/containers are not suitable as we sell by volume not weight.

Raspberry picking requires a pint or quart container that we will provide free of charge. We DO NOT allow raspberry picking into your own containers.

Report to the Market employees BEFORE you begin picking.

Only those who are picking may enter the fields. Visitors that are not picking are asked to stay in the picnic area. We reserve the right to charge a minimum. We may require a deposit if you come in a large group.

Visitors are asked to wash their hands before going to the field. We provide a hand wipe station near the field.

Go to the section you are directed to (there is usually a marker in the proper location). We try to organize the picking over the entire field to ensure proper harvest. Please stay in your rows and do not wander outside of the designated areas.

Please walk in between the rows. Do not step on the plants.

Samples are expected, but please do not eat a feast. We reserve the right to restrict entry if pickers do not follow this rule.

No Smoking in the berry fields! It is unsanitary and a fire hazard.

Children must remain with a responsible adult at all times. They may not wander the field or run in the berry patch.

Dogs are not welcome in the berry fields; please leave your pets at home if you are coming to pick berries.

Bring all of your pails into the Market for check-out; do not load them into your car before a staff person has checked them.

Berries are sold by volume. Do not overfill your pails. We will measure the excess volume and charge accordingly.

Bring a hat, water, sunscreen & bug repellent. Berry picking can be hard work. We have water and drinks available for purchase in the country market.

Visitors are welcome during business hours. U-pick fields are open from 9:30am to 1/2 an hour before closing only. No “early birds”.

Lincoln Gardens employees will monitor the U-Pick fields and are available to answer questions you may have.

**We must remind people that ONLY berries are ‘U-Pick’ at our farm, and ONLY with permission. We have been dealing with too many people entering unauthorized areas of our farm and eating & picking crops. If this does not stop we will close the U-Pick altogether. Visitors are only allowed to enter those areas designated by us; people found in unauthorized areas will be prosecuted under the “Trespass Bylaw” which includes a $2000 fine. Alternately, I will follow you home and lift items from your backyard :)
