wwoof info
Lincoln Gardens and the Corn Maiden Market belong to the Canadian WWOOF organization. 2008 was our first year as a wwoof host and it was a great experience.
Willing Workers On Organic Farms, or World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms is a network across the globe that encourages individuals to participate in farming, learn new skills, and engage in cultural exchange. In return, the travelers get a place to stay while touring across the country. Due to our location near Regina and the relative ease of getting to our farm, Lincoln Gardens is a great place to stop at if one is traveling across the country.
Volunteers at Lincoln Gardens may work at any number of activities including seeding, weeding, planting, harvesting or maintenance and building projects depending on their skills. We accept wwoof’ers from May – early October.
One does not need to be a member of the wwoof organization to participate in a work exchange on our farm. We also accept Karma Yoga volunteers who share the values and objectives of our farm/family. Karma Yoga is the act of selfless service, sharing our skills without the expectation of monetary gain.
WWOOF’ers and Karma Yoga volunteers both enjoy the hospitality of meals and living spaces while at Lincoln Gardens. Accommodation is provided in a secluded retreat area next to the river. The rustic cottage with simple kitchen (sleeps 2) and the Mongolian yurt (sleeps 1), provide accommodation while here. Both of these spaces are fun to stay in, although require urban volunteers to shed some of their inhibitions as the washroom facilities are an old fashioned outdoor privy and semi-modern outdoor shower! Vegetarian & non-vegetarian meals with the family and some self-catering with groceries provided. Staying on our farm requires guests adapt to rural living, be self-reliant, creative, flexible and easygoing. Internet is available on a limited basis. No Smoking in the accommodations please. We regret that we cannot accept families with children.
Wwoofers get time off each day to do their own thing and we provide bicycles to explore with. There are several interesting attractions near Lumsden, such as walking trails, a lake, art galleries and cafes. There are plenty of things to discover on the farm as well since we are situated on the Qu’Appelle River. Many guests have spent time simply relaxing beside the river, sketching, reading, doing yoga etc. And we are more than happy to show you some sights when we have the time (we work 10-12hrs per day so please be aware that you will need to entertain yourself much of your free time).
Please send us an email if you are interested in volunteering or apprenticing in the coming season, we would love to host you! We accept WWOOFers from May – early October.
